The role of molybdenum in steel

Alloy steel, stainless steel, tool steel and cast iron are the main application fields of molybdenum, and their production volume determines the demand for molybdenum, so what are the roles of molybdenum in steel?

1. Reduce the cooling rate to an appropriate value to obtain a hard martensite structure, thus improving the strength, hardness and toughness of large-section members;

2. Reduce temper brittleness;

3. Anti-hydrogen embrittlement;

4. Stress cracking resistance caused by sulfide;

5. Sodium molybdate improves high temperature strength;

6. Improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel, especially against chloride pitting;

7. Sodium molybdate improves the welding performance of high-strength low-alloy steel.
